Eunice Phindile Mthombeni’s Journey Through Her Second Term
The second term of Eunice Phindile Mthombeni’s academic year brought with it the expected challenges, but it also revealed the strength of the support systems around her. Currently in her third year of studies in the Bachelor of Accounting program at the University of Johannesburg, Eunice acknowledges the leap in intensity from second to third year. Yet, through perseverance and support, she has found her rhythm.
Although third year is a notable jump from second year,” Eunice reflects, “I would like to believe that I am now used to the demanding hours of work that I have to put in.
One of the key pillars of her support has been the JDK Trust Fund, which not only provides financial assistance but also offers emotional and academic encouragement. The trust has stayed connected with Eunice, regularly checking in and asking how she is managing, which has made a meaningful difference in her experience.
Equally, her friends and family have played a significant role. Their encouragement and understanding have lightened the weight of academic pressures and made the first semester more manageable.
Outside of her academic commitments, Eunice makes a conscious effort to maintain a healthy balance. “To balance my academic life and social life, I enjoy going out and trying new restaurants with my friends,” she shares. She also unwinds by crocheting, watching series on Netflix, and reading books during study breaks—simple pleasures that offer her both rest and inspiration.
Among the highlights of her second term, Eunice is especially proud of her work as a tutor. She provides tutoring sessions for first-year Bachelor of Accounting students, a role that aligns perfectly with her passion for education and helping others grasp new concepts.
“I am very passionate about helping others better understand new concepts, and tutoring has offered me that opportunity,” she explains. “I am also passionate about making a positive impact on others’ education.”
As she continues her journey through university, Eunice’s story is one of resilience, purpose, and support. With her determination and the strength of the community around her, she is well on her way to leaving a lasting impact—not just on her own future, but on the futures of others as well.
